Parametric Designing and Simulation of mono leaf spring using solidworks

As a major project, my team and I decided to design a mono leaf spring using parametric modelling in Solidworks. Objective of this project was to find optimized design of mono leaf spring by varying the values of its dimensions. To obtain the optimized design, we needed to perform number of iteration of design and simulation. To reduce the time required to redesign the spring we implemented Parametric Design Method by defining its width and thickness as a varying parameter. Alloy steel was considered as a material for mono leaf spring and it was tested for different combinations of width and thickness.

Model of mono leaf spring was created using Solidworks equation table feature that allowed us to define dimensions using global variables. Further modelling was carried out by keeping width and thickness as a global variables and eye to eye length as a constant. Performed simulation using solidworks to obtain Von Mises stress and static deflection and compared with theoretical solutions. It was concluded that the optimized design of mono leaf spring can be found by simulating model created using parametric designing for various combinations of dimensions. In this project, modeling of the spring was done only once and it is permanently available for modifications according to design specifications eventually reduced time and efforts in redesigning.
